This session will bring together Planning, Sustainability, and Public Health Experts to highlight the opportunities within land use planning to simultaneously plan for and address climate change as well as human health

Participate in engaging conversation with:

Michael McCormick, AICP, Senior Planner in the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research

Gil Friend, Chief Sustainability Officer, City of Palo Alto

Susan Stuart, MPH, Health Planner with Santa Clara County Public Health Department

Linda Helland, MPH, CPH, Climate and Health Team Lead for the California Department of Public Health

Learning Objectives for this session include:

•          Understand the basic science behind climate change and how it will effect community health at a local level

•          Understand the connection between healthy and sustainable communities

•          Apply the knowledge by participating in the broader planning process at the city and county level

•          Understand the role of demographics and data to inform planning and opportunities to inform healthy planning and to understand the effects on certain communities, particularly vulnerable communities

•           Incorporate health policies which benefit both mitigation and adaptation efforts such as general plans and climate plans
