Celebrate American Planning Association’s (APA) 2019 National Community Planning month with a discussion with Yujuan Chen of TreePeople about trees as green infrastructure.
Trees are essential infrastructure like buildings, roads, and pipelines that support our day-to-day lives. Furthermore, trees are multi-benefit green infrastructure (e.g., capturing water, preventing water pollution and flooding, cleaning the air, sequestering carbon, mitigating the urban heat island effect, and enhancing human health and well-being). Additionally, trees are the only type of infrastructure that appreciates in value over time. This talk will highlight the importance, potential, and challenges of integrating green infrastructure and gray infrastructure for sustainable urban development with case studies from Los Angeles.
This is the third session of our October Speaker Series aimed to provide an interactive learning experience through diverse speakers and planning topics.
