For too long, governments have made planning decisions for communities with little to no public collaboration. While there has been some progress, the redlining and environmental racism policies and practices of the past have been replaced with gentrication, displacement, exclusionary zoning, and “community meetings” lacking real community representation. To paraphrase Heather McGhee in her book, The Sum of Us, it is time to tell the truth and create new practices that allow all of our country’s communities to move forward with a new story, together. Join us for this session to learn about the agency- and community-led engagement work being done to build a more just, equitable, and prosperous region.
