APA California members are encouraged by Monica Villalobos, with  APA Latinos and Planning Division, to attend a conference sponsored by the U.C. Berkeley Institute of Urban and Regional Development (IURD) on the subject of Creating Sustainable Urban Futures.

What U.C. Berkeley IURD has to say about this conference:

Transit is vital to the sustainability of cities – environmentally, economically, socially. Trains and buses are the most resourceful way of moving large numbers of people about the city. They use less space and energy and, when powered by clean fuels, emit fewer pollutants than any mode. They are also inclusive, allowing everyone – regardless of age, income or background – to access all a city has to offer. Join us and be a part of a growing movement that places transit, in its many shapes and forms, front and center in the campaign to create sustainable cities.

  • Keynote Speakers: Jaime Lerner (Former Mayor, Curitiba, Brazil), Peter Calthorpe (The Next American Metropolis and Urbanism in the Age of Climate Change), Therese McMillan (Deputy Administrator, Federal Transit Administration)
  • Host and Event Moderator: Robert Cervero (Director, IURD; The Transit Metropolis and Transit Villages for the 21st Century);
  • Discussant: Allan Jacobs (Great Streets)
