Job Description

The City of Salinas is accepting applications for Associate Planner. This recruitment will be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill future Associate Planner vacancies.

Summary of Duties: To perform professional-level work in the field of current or advanced planning, affordable housing, neighborhood preservation, or economic development; to conduct special studies and research for the Community Development Department as assigned; and to prepare reports and recommendations relative to area of assignment.

Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the journey level class in the professional planning series. Work in this class is distinguished from the Assistant Planner by greater assignment complexity and greater decision-making independence.

Required Skills/Experience/Education:

Bachelor's Degree in urban planning, public administration or a related field


Four (4) years of progressively responsible planning or public policy experience, with at least two years at the professional planning level. A Master's Degree in urban planning, public administration or a related field may be substituted for two (2) years of planning or public policy experience.

Salary Range: $6,715.00 - $8,571.00 Monthly
