APA California’s COVID-19 Meeting and Event Policy

As the situation around the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to evolve, the APA California Chapter and our regional sections (Sections) would like to update our members on the status of our organization’s events and programs.
The Chapter and Sections will not be holding any in-person meetings or events per the guidance from the California Public Health Department (CDPH). This APA California policy will be in place until CDPH changes its recommendations for public gatherings. 
APA California will provide our Sections with technical support and access to the state’s GoTo Meeting subscription, so whenever possible, meetings and events can be held online. If you need to use this resource for APA California or Section business, please consult your local Section Director or Professional Development Officer for more information on this resource. 
If they have not already, your Section will provide more information about the status of individual events that were already scheduled before this policy went into effect.
APA California’s Legislative Advocacy Program
In order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19, the California State Legislature just passed a resolution placing the Legislature in joint recess from March 20 to April 13, however that is subject to change. Legislative and committee staff will continue to work during this time, and floor sessions and committee meetings may be conducted by teleconference if needed, but committee hearings previously scheduled before April 13 will be postponed.
APA California has a robust advocacy program and will continue to monitor all legislative activity closely. The APA California Legislative Review Team recently hosted a conference call on March 5 to review all planning-related bills and was prepared to start working on position letters in advance of legislative hearings. While legislative activity will be slower than normal, APA California’s lobbyists and Vice President of Policy and Legislation will continue to work with legislative staff, to the extent possible during the recess, to communicate APA’s positions on proposed legislation and to prepare for hearings when the Legislature returns.
