Dear APA California Members,
Many view the end of the calendar year as an opportunity to reflect. As my term as APA California President ends, I find myself thinking about this incredible two-year journey with both gratitude and pride. Truly, it has been an honor to serve this remarkable community of planners who continuously push the boundaries of innovation, equity, and resilience in shaping California’s future.
Together, we have achieved so much over the past two years. Our annual conferences were not only well-attended but also highly rated, showcasing the collective brilliance, creativity, and expertise within our membership and those in the “planner-adjacent” space. Our conferences served as powerful reminders of the strength and depth of our community, sparking new ideas and forging meaningful connections.
Through our partnership with the California Planning Roundtable, we amplified the impact of the Planning Leadership Academy, empowering emerging leaders and fostering a culture of mentorship and growth. This initiative underscores our shared belief in the importance of equipping the next generation with the tools and inspiration they need to succeed.
Additionally, I’m especially proud of the significant strides we made in engaging students and emerging planners. With an increase in activities tailored specifically to their needs, we not only supported their professional journeys but also ensured they feel valued as an integral part of our community. Their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives are the lifeblood of our organization’s future.
None of these achievements would have been possible without the dedication of our members, the visionary leadership of our board, our Section leadership, and the tireless efforts of our volunteers. You are the heart of APA California, and your commitment to advancing our profession and serving our communities has been a constant source of inspiration to me.
As I step into the role of Past President, I do so with a profound sense of gratitude and optimism. I will continue advocating on increasing the access to opportunities for learning about planning at the community college level, with the overall goal of increasing the number of Associate’s degrees in planning throughout the state.
I know that APA California will continue to thrive and lead with purpose, thanks to each of you. I am so excited to see our incoming APA California President Carey Fernandes, AICP take on this role and lead us with inspiration and motivation for the next two years.
Thank you for your trust, support, and collaboration during my term. It has been the privilege of a lifetime to serve you. I look forward to continuing our shared journey and celebrating the accomplishments to come.
With respect and appreciation,
Andrea Ouse, AICP
APA California President
