The Planning and Building Department is seeking well-qualified candidates for the position of Airport Roundtable Coordinator - Planner III - (Part-Time) to work as coordinator of the San Francisco International Airport/Community Roundtable.
The San Francisco International Airport/Community Roundtable is a consortium of the cities in San Mateo County, the County, the City and County of San Francisco, and the San Francisco International Airport (SFO) that meets bimonthly to identify and resolve community noise impacts from aircraft operations at SFO. Their goal is to achieve noise mitigation through a cooperative sharing of authority among the aviation industry, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), SFO management, and local government.
The Airport Roundtable Coordinator (Planner III) will help plan, organize and stage the Roundtable's meetings and coordinate the work of an aviation noise-mitigation consultant. Responsibilities will include preparation and management of the Roundtable's work plan and budget, regular interaction with Roundtable members (mostly elected officials), San Francisco Airport staff, the FAA, and the public, planning and conducting sub-committee meetings, and contract management for the aviation technical consultant supporting the Roundtable's work and in general. The Airport Roundtable Coordinator will coordinate with San Francisco International Airport's executive staff and Noise Office to generate monthly reports for the Roundtable and will provide updates on progress and challenges to both the Roundtable and the management team of the Planning and Building Department. The Coordinator will also coordinate and manage public participation in Roundtable operations as appropriate.
SFO is one of the busiest airports in the country and contributes significantly to the County's economy. This position helps characterize and manage airport noise to improve the quality of life in the communities surrounding SFO.
This is a part-time, permanent position.
The ideal candidate is a team player and an independently motivated individual with knowledge and experience in airport land use planning and airport operations. The ideal candidate is also an excellent communicator (both verbally and in writing), can develop consensus, and can successfully work with a diverse community. Additionally, the ideal candidate can manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a timely manner and can provide guidance to other members of the staff, elected officials, airport personnel, aviation consultants and the public.
The successful candidate will emphasize interdepartmental/interagency coordination and communications, and continually look for innovative and creative process improvements that generate more consistent and transparent outcomes. The position requires an ability to work independently with limited supervision and an ability to work from home.
Education and Experience:
A typical way to qualify is possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Planning or a closely related field and three years of professional planning experience.
- Organization of local government and concepts of public administration.
- Principles, practices and trends in urban and regional planning, including physical, social and economic factors.
- Codes, ordinances and laws related to planning, zoning, environmental resource protection, and subdivisions.
- Basic computer operations.
- Research and statistical methods and sources of data.
- Mathematical principles, tools and practices used in determining density and structural floor area.
- Symbols, language and techniques used in planning, drafting and mapping.
