Northern California Housing Team Lead – Rancho Cordova/Oakland

We are currently seeking an energetic and personable manager to lead Michael Baker International’s Northern California Housing Team. You will be joining a group of collaborative, passionate, and client-driven housing professionals. The ideal candidate will help team members thrive professionally as they provide dynamic and customized services to our clients. This position will focus on both supporting existing lines of work and bringing in new lines of housing-related work, including housing policy programs, grant management, affordable housing program implementation and management, community engagement, and housing studies. Your focus will be on the growth of two primary team locations, in Rancho Cordova and Oakland.



•Manage the Housing Team, including supervision, guidance, direction, and project oversight, as appropriate. Management includes determining the staff growth opportunities necessary or beneficial to meet client and team goals.

•Maintain and build relationships with clients based on trust, dependability, quality, transparency, and hard work; support all team members in representing these team values on a daily basis with colleagues and clients alike. 

•Serve as project lead and/or director of planning projects and for strategic pursuits in Northern California in collaboration with other offices and practice areas, as needed. The direct role will involve proposal writing, networking meetings, quality assurance/quality control, client care, and scope and budget oversight. 

•Partner with other Michael Baker teams and oversee marketing and business development activities and networking to grow the Housing Team.

•Participate in professional organizations to increase the practice’s visibility and business opportunities, including coordinating participation and representation at key conferences.

•Provide exemplary leadership, determine direction, lead market awareness, and serve as a role model for others.

•Identify and develop emerging talent and leadership to create upward mobility and succession planning.

You will also demonstrate a desire to make a difference in the communities we serve.   Experience •A minimum of 7 years of experience in affordable housing policy and housing program management •A minimum of 5 years of project management and personnel supervision for planning- or housing-related projects •Advanced understanding of CDBG or similar grant programs, below-market-rate housing programs, public/civic engagement, and housing policy •Experience with local, state, and federal agencies •At least 5 years of involvement in marketing and business development activities, including proposals and presentations •Community and professional leadership experience   Skills •Strong ability to identify, develop, and capture business •Knowledge of business and management principles involved in leadership techniques, strategic planning, resource allocation, and production methods •Ability to foster and cultivate the Michael Baker culture and exemplify the company’s shared values •Excellent communication skills •Computer skills: MS Office Suite •AICP certification preferred   Education •Bachelor’s degree or higher in planning or a related discipline from an accredited school
